Innovation Summary:
To reduce the risk of strains, sprains, and lacerations, the facility implemented a new racking system and lift-assist equipment for handling large cutting dies. Previously, two employees were required to manually lift and store dies, sometimes above shoulder height, creating a significant risk for injury. The new system utilizes a die cart and a hand-controlled lift arm, allowing safe and ergonomic placement and removal of dies without manual lifting.
Implementation and Impact:
This change has eliminated the need for physical strain during the die handling process, significantly reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries and hand-related incidents. Employees have responded positively, expressing increased confidence and comfort with the task. The solution not only improves safety but also promotes efficiency and teamwork by removing the physical burden of the old process.
