Safety Innovation Summary:
The team identified recurring ergonomic injuries, communication gaps, and inconsistent understanding of key safety practices. To address this, a hands-on training room was developed where new hires actively practice tasks such as lockout/tagout, review facility signage, and learn proper PPE and safe behaviors around mobile equipment. The space also simulates emergency alarms to reinforce awareness and response expectations.
Implementation and Impact:
The room was designed using employee feedback, safety committee input, and a review of past incidents and near misses to focus on high-risk areas. This interactive approach improved understanding of LOTO, mobile equipment safety, PPE compliance, and ergonomics. As a result, the facility has seen a reduction in sprains and strains, along with improved communication and overall safety awareness.
