Safety Innovation Summary:
To reduce the risk of vehicle and pedestrian contact at the wet end of the corrugator, the facility team developed a system to separate the two. Frequent interactions between roll clamp trucks and employees manually moving paper rolls created a high-risk area. After testing temporary barriers and gathering feedback from pedestrians and drivers, the team finalized a layout and installed permanent steel barricades that allow paper rolls through but block vehicle entry with a height restrictor.
Implementation and Impact:
The collaborative approach ensured buy-in and led to a well-accepted, practical solution. The new barricades are bolted to the floor and designed to withstand vehicle impact, creating a permanently safe zone for pedestrians. This structural and procedural change has significantly reduced the risk of contact between vehicles and employees in a previously high-risk area.
