FBA Environmental Committee Meeting Discusses HFCs, Environmental Compliance Resources
The Fibre Box Association’s (FBA) Environmental Committee held its first meeting of the year on August 18, chaired by Allison Casey from Georgia-Pacific Corrugated LLC. The committee welcomed new members, including Holly Showalter of Akers Packaging, Kristie Frydenlund of Liberty Diversified, Rachel Davis of Smurfit WestRock, and Paul Doyle of Atlantic Packaging.
The group covered a full agenda, including a presentation from ALL4 on HFCs, a discussion on the development of the Environmental Compliance Resource, and other current industry topics.
A highlight of the meeting was the ALL4 presentation, which sparked strong discussion about understanding of leak-rate calculations, difficulty obtaining complete, quality records from vendors, and the need for stronger technician certification practices.
Over the past month, Jonita Verma, the Senior Technical Services Coordinator at FBA, met with committee members to define the scope of an Environmental Compliance Resource that is genuinely useful for the industry and easily maintained by the committee. The group plans to form a subcommittee to help shape the project.
In addition, the committee reviewed FBA's EPR State-by-State Regulation Guide and Companion Master Spreadsheet, along with the new FBA Research Assistant tool, both available to members on the FBA Member website.
The committee also discussed offering new trainings and webinars next year and talked through which topics would be most valuable to members. The committee is planning its next meeting for early 2027.
